How to Build a Gaming PC: RigEden’s Beginner Roadmap
A gaming PC build gets easier when you choose parts in dependency order instead of shopping randomly. Start with the performance target and budget, then choose the CPU platform, motherboard and memory generation. After that, select the graphics card, case, cooling, storage and power supply.
1. Set the target
Decide whether the system is aimed primarily at 1080p, 1440p, 4K, competitive high-refresh gaming, or a mix of gaming and productivity. This keeps the budget focused on the components that matter to your use.
2. Lock the platform
The CPU socket must match the motherboard socket. The motherboard also determines the supported memory generation and expansion options. Check the exact motherboard CPU-support list when necessary, because BIOS support can vary.
3. Choose the GPU and case together
Graphics cards vary significantly in length and thickness. Compare the exact GPU dimensions against the case clearance, including any space consumed by front-mounted radiators or fans.
4. Plan cooling and power
Verify the CPU cooler supports the socket and fits the case. For the PSU, allow practical headroom and verify the connectors required by the graphics card.
5. Verify before checkout
Recheck exact model numbers, dimensions, socket support, memory type, cooler mounting support and PSU connectors against current manufacturer specifications before buying.
