CPU and Motherboard Compatibility Explained
The most important first check in a PC build is whether the processor and motherboard belong to the same platform.
Socket comes first
A CPU must physically and electrically match the motherboard socket. Similar product names do not guarantee compatibility.
Chipset and BIOS matter too
A matching socket is necessary, but some boards may require a particular BIOS version for a newer processor. Consult the motherboard manufacturer’s CPU-support list for the exact board revision.
Memory follows the motherboard
The board determines whether the build uses DDR4 or DDR5 and specifies supported capacities and configurations. DDR generations are not interchangeable.
Final check
Match the exact CPU model, motherboard model and revision, BIOS support and memory generation before purchase.
